11. Health and safety
The services provided by Soft Spaces are intended for educational and informational purposes only. While they may promote emotional and mental well-being, they are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
Our offerings, including but not limited to therapy sessions, coaching, and workshops, are not intended to replace psychiatric treatment, psychotherapy, or medical care. If you are experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, please seek immediate assistance from a qualified healthcare provider or contact emergency services.
It’s important to note that results may vary, and individual experiences with our services may differ. We encourage you to consult with a licensed healthcare professional before making any decisions regarding your physical or mental health.
By accessing and using our services, you acknowledge and agree that you are responsible for your own well-being and that the information provided is not a substitute for professional medical or psychological advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
11.1. The health and safety standards that apply to the services purchased to Soft Spaces and/or any of their facilitators should meet the local standards applicable to the booked destinations. Soft Spaces also monitors that local standards are met. We are following the WHO recommendations in relations to COVID-19 containment.
11.2. During our sessions and workshops we practice Breathwork and other somatic therapies. In consideration of being permitted to participate in any related events or activities with Soft Spaces (hereinafter collectively “the Activities”), you acknowledge, understand, and agree to the following:
The effects of Holosomatic Therapy may include all types of physical and emotional release, including but not limited to: muscle contractions, sweating, nervous system and biochemical changes, heightened sensory awareness, headache, fainting, crying, dizziness and other symptoms.
Although these effects may be expected, especially during a heavy or extended breathwork activity, be advised that there is no way to eliminate the risks or to anticipate the length of any physical or emotional effects (which may last beyond the breathwork itself). Although breathwork is used for healing purposes, in some cases people have experienced adverse effects and, as as result, breathwork is contraindicated for those with a personal or family history of mental illness, seizure disorders for persons taking psychiatric medications, for those with a history of cardiovascular disease, myocarditis, heart attack, high blood pressure, glaucoma, retinal detachment, bone or muscular disorders, significant physical injuries or recent surgery.
Pregnancy: Pregnant women are not allowed to join any of our sessions and workshops because there haven’t been any studies on this impact on the fetus’s health. Moreover, premature contractions can be triggered in later periods of pregnancy.
Asthma: If you’re diagnosed with asthma, especially some types of Breathwork could be beneficial, but you must have an inhaler available throughout the whole session. Because asthma is a psychosomatic illness, the psyche may intensify the symptoms as it tries to ameliorate the condition. It’s not a contraindication, just a warning to always have an inhaler available with you.
Severe cardiovascular diseases and/or irregularities, including prior heart attack: Strong emotional release or physical movement can stress the cardio system. Therefore people with severe cardiovascular diseases and/or irregularities are not allowed to practice Breathwork.
Glaucoma: during a Breathwork session, a breather may stress and strain internally, which could temporarily increase intraocular pressure that would worsen glaucoma symptoms. Moreover, if the breather experiences blurred vision, this may be an undiagnosed case of glaucoma, and a person needs to examine his eyes before continuing breathwork.
High blood pressure: Strong emotional release during Breathwork can exacerbate the issues connected to high blood pressure and raise it even higher. Therefore, you will not be allowed to practice Breathwork with high blood pressure.
Detached retina: Breathing faster and deeper reduces intraocular pressure. This increases the risk of permanent vision damage for a person with a detached retina. People with detached retina are not allowed to practice Breathwork.
Psychosis: Any people that are psychotic or if they recently discharged from an addiction treatment centre shouldn’t do Breathwork, as they are not grounded enough to come back in their everyday experience. They go into their psyche and can’t return on track and anchor in reality. According to Grof (1998), an average of good physical and mental resilience is required when practicing Breathwork.
Epilepsy: There is a slightly increased chance of having a seizure during Breathwork due to faster, deeper breathing. Therefore, people with epilepsy are not allowed to practice Breathwork.
Bipolar disorder or schizophrenia (prior diagnosed): Breathwork could trigger a manic episode; that’s why those people shouldn’t participate in breathwork sessions.
Hospitalisation for any psychiatric condition or emotional crisis in the past 10 years, such as an attempted suicide or nervous breakdown: In this case, written approval by a healthcare professional is needed before practicing Breathwork.
PTSD in severe cases: Many breathers have experienced profound healing experiences regarding PTSD. In severe cases, written approval by a healthcare professional is needed to ensure a person is grounded enough to handle what might come up during the session, including possibly reliving the experience which caused the PTSD to release it out of the system. The greatest danger in severe psychiatric conditions is that Breathwork can bring up memories that the person is not ready to face yet and this can cause retraumatization.
Osteoporosis; Recent hospitalisation; Severe bone and joint problems; Recent injury or surgery: In altered states of consciousness during Breathwork, a person can start moving uncontrollably and hurt themselves if they are facing the issues stated above. Therefore, people in these cases are not allowed to practise Breathwork.
History of strokes and seizures: The amount of oxygen that enters the body is altered which may result in a seizure. Before attempting any Breathwork activities, be sure to talk about how they can affect your condition.
Family history of aneurisms: Blood circulation and the amount of oxygen in the body are both impacted by Breathwork. Those who are susceptible to aneurysms may be affected differently from those who are not. Be sure to discuss with your doctor whether or not Breathwork is a concern for you.
Hypoglycaemia and Diabetes: Caution is needed when practising Breathwork due to changing oxgyen and carbondioxide levels in the blood.
Severe infections and unwanted complications: A doctor’s approval is needed to avoid any unforeseeable complications when practising Breathwork.
Prescription blood thinning/anti-clotting medications such as Coumadin: Blood thinners prevent blood clots from forming. Using these medications are a contraindication for Breathwork because hyperventilation can be caused by blood clots for example a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolus.
Consumption of drugs or psychedelics; consumption of alcohol; fasting: People who have consumed drugs, psychedelics or alcohol in the last 24 hours are not allowed to practise any of the activities offered by Soft Spaces. People in a fasting diet in the last 72 hours are also not allowed to practise any of the activities offered by Soft Spaces.
You agree to comply with the stated and customary guidance and norms of participation in the Activities. If, however, you observe any unusual hazard during your presence or participation, you will immediately remove yourself from participation in the Activities and bring such to the attention of the nearest facilitator.
You know, understand and acknowledge that Soft Spaces are NOT physicians, psychologists, therapists, or healthcare professionals, and the Activities being offered are NOT intended to treat or diagnose, and does NOT include treatment for or diagnosis of, any illnesses, disease or disorders, whether physical, mental, psychological or emotional.
You fully understand and acknowledge that if you were not in such good health, you would not be permitted to partake in the Activities.
12.3. Breathwork and Holosomatic Therapy (all the technique we use at Soft Spaces) are considered an alternative healing therapy and is not a substitute for or intended to be medical or psychological care. Any advice offered regarding Holosomatic Therapy is not designed to be a diagnosis or treatment of any disease, injury or medical condition.
YOU MUST CONSULT YOUR PHYSICIAN OR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER with regard to your health or any medical condition(s) that may affect or be impacted by Holosomatic Therapy.
12. Special requests and medical problems
It is your responsibility to notify Soft Spaces of any relevant and / or existing medical conditions before booking that may make you unsuitable to participate and/or impact on your participation in the booked product/service.
Holosomatic Therapy can result in intense physical and emotional release. Therefore, you are not allowed to practise Holosomatic Therapy if you have epilepsy, detached retina, glaucoma, uncontrolled high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases (including prior heart attack), mental disorders (manic disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), paranoia, psychotic episodes, depersonalization, etc.), strokes, TIA´s, seizures or other brain/neurological conditions, a history of aneurysms in the immediate family, use of prescription blood thinners, hospitalized for any psychiatric condition or emotional crisis within the past 10 years, osteoporosis or physical injuries that are not fully healed, acute somatic and viral diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD-II and COPD-III), chronic diseases with symptoms of decompensation or terminal illness, individual intolerance of oxygen insufficiency, cancer and Low Impulse Control.
Pregnant women are also not allowed to practise Holosomatic Therapy.
People with asthma should bring their inhalers and consult with their primary care physician and the facilitator.
This work is deeply experiential. It may involve intense and energetic emotional release. People who are under the influence of alcohol, drugs or psychedelics in the last 24 hours are not allowed to practise any activities offered by Soft Spaces. People who have been practising fasting in the last 72 hours are also not allowed to practise Holosomatic Therapy.
You must also inform the facilitator before commencing any activity or treatments of any medical conditions likely to affect it.
No refunds of any nature will be provided in the instance that an activity must be cancelled in consideration for your health and safety.
